Stuff Used

Ingredients You’ll Need

To start making this tasty fried rice, gather the following ingredients:

  • MUJI Luncheon Meat Original Flavor

  • Crabsticks

  • Chopped Garlic

  • Ajinomoto Dashi

  • Soy Sauce

  • Eggs

  • Overnight Cold Rice

Having all your items ready beforehand will make the cooking process smoother.

Preparing the Filling Ingredients

Before you heat things up, it's essential to prep your ingredients.

Firstly, dice the MUJI SPAM into bite-sized pieces. A good size for each cube would be about half an inch. This helps it crisp up nicely while frying.

Next, if you’re using leftover rice, break up any clumps with a fork. Research shows that using cold rice can improve the texture, as it fries better and helps keep each grain separate. On average, day-old rice has a moisture content of about 30% less than fresh rice, making it perfect for frying.

For my batch of leftover rice, I used about 2 eggs. Seperate the egg yolk from one of the eggs and coat the overnight rice with Yolk so they look all nice and yellow. Break and mix the rest of the eggs with some dashi. Set everything right beside you because timing is everything for fried rice.

Cooking the Fried Rice

With everything prepped, let’s get frying!

  1. Sauté MUJI SPAM: Toss in your diced MUJI SPAM on the other side of the pan. Stir continuously for about 3-4 minutes until it turns golden brown and crispy.

  2. Add the Oil: In a large frying pan or wok, heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it shimmers.

  3. Add the Garlic: Let them cook for about a minute until they are fragrant\

  4. Add everything else: For my fried rice I added crabsticks you can also throw in corn, peas, brocolli and other stuff

  5. Add Rice: Give the rice and the rest of the ingredients a good mix and fry to get rid of all moisture

  6. Scramble the Eggs: Push the Rice aside and pour in the beaten eggs and scramble them quickly.

  7. Combine Everything: Mix in the scrambled eggs, the rice

  8. Add Rice: Gently fold in the cold rice while breaking up any clumps. This helps the rice soak in the flavors from the

  9. Season: Drizzle the soy sauce over the rice mixture. Stir to combine and season with salt and pepper. For an extra kick, consider adding a tablespoon of sesame oil, which can increase the dish's aroma and flavor.

  10. Finishing Touches: Incorporate chopped green onions or Tobiko and give everything a final stir.
